In many cases.. matrixing is the most important aspect of the build up in order to ease the restorative phase..
Whenever the buccal or lingual walls need build up.. use of the tofflemaire retainer is very useful.. the other option would ofcourse be to go for Immediate Dentin Sealing and then an indirect composite or Emax restoration..
Intial presentation showing an old amalgum with secondary caries..
Use of wedge for seperation..complete caries removal seen..
This is the key step.. note the slight gap between the matrix and the lingual wall.. this is adjusted by using your index finger against the matrix during build and curing of the lingual wall.. this prevents unwanted excess and need for post build up shaping..
Selective etch.. and then 7th gen bonding agent..
Build up and shaping done.. note the teflon tape that was used for the margin isolation also that is seen.. its benefit is seen in the matrixing photo showing the excellent margin isolation achieved free of blood and gcf..
