Case description:
A 17 years old female patient was referred to me for aesthetic management of her fractured anterior teeth. It was a challenging case for me. The big challenge was to match the shade of the discolored right central incisor with the adjacent teeth.
The case was completed in 4 sessions. The first 2 sessions included re-endodontic treatment for the maxillary right central incisor. At the 3rd visit, fiber post insertion was conducted followed by direct composite stratification for the right & left central incisors and the right lateral incisor. A 4th session was scheduled for final contouring, finishing, texture application, and polishing.
Clinical note: one of the best methods for achieving a good color matching for a discolored anterior tooth is to mask the underlying color using color modifiers according to [Black & Trushkowsky. Color modifiers and opaquers; (chapter 4), Esthetic Dentistry 3d edition, 2015].
In this case I used a thin layer of the (pink opaquer) from 3M ESPE to mask the bluish discoloration of the right central incisor.
The used composite shades and instruments are presented in the images below.
