Conservative dentistry doesn’t necessarily mean less drilling of a tooth. While the primary goal of conservative dentistry is to preserve as much natural tooth structure as possible, there are situations where drilling or removal of a certain amount of tooth structure is necessary to effectively treat dental issues, In cases where a tooth is significantly weakened due to damage or decay, preserving its structural integrity might require removing compromised portions of the tooth. This step is essential to prevent future fractures or breakage of the tooth.
For certain restorations like dental crowns or inlays/onlays, a precise fit is crucial to ensure proper function and longevity, This may necessitate the removal of all weakly supported enamel which can seem aggressively not conservative approach .
It’s important to note that the goal of conservative dentistry isn’t to avoid all drilling, but rather to strike a balance between preserving healthy tooth structure and effectively treating dental issues .
